Komdigi's Strategy to Boost Tech Independence and Ensure Data Security

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Vice Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Nezar Patria, stated that the National AI Roadmap is the government’s strategy to encourage the safe and accountable utilisation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to boost Indonesia’s digital economy. The AI roadmap will regulate AI adoption across various sectors and establish ethical principles regarding data security and accountability, serving as a tool to measure AI technology adoption readiness so that Indonesia can achieve technological independence towards Sovereign AI.

The government is also promoting the downstream processing and industrialisation of critical minerals to position Indonesia as a player in the global supply chain. This is considered crucial for strengthening the nation’s digital technology sovereignty.

Furthermore, Komdigi is advancing digital literacy and preparing the digital skills of the domestic workforce through the AI Talent Factory programme, enabling the application of AI in sectors such as agriculture, financial services, and health. Amid global economic turmoil, Komdigi also sees challenges in AI technology development related to technological mastery, necessitating strengthened and fair collaboration with developed countries.
