JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Digitalisation (Komdigi) states that the Roblox gaming platform has complied with Indonesia’s child protection regulations and has now removed the communication feature with unknown individuals.

“Roblox has removed the communication feature with unknown individuals for children under 16 and 13 years old. This step aligns with the main aspects of government regulations, namely restrictions on communication with strangers and content control,” said Minister Meutya Hafid in a press release on Thursday (30/4/2026).

Roblox is said to have implemented age verification for its users in Indonesia.

She noted that child users on Roblox are very numerous. Of the total 45 million Roblox users in Indonesia, 23 million are recorded as children under 16 years old.

In addition to interaction restrictions, Roblox also provides a screen time setting feature that can be directly controlled by parents to minimise the risk of gaming addiction in children.

Meutya said that to date, her ministry has received compliance commitments to PP Tunas from eight major digital platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X (formerly Twitter), Bigo Live, YouTube, and TikTok.

The implementation of child protection also receives support from various Regional Governments (Pemda) through policies restricting device use in school environments.

“We are greatly assisted by regulations if schoolchildren do not bring devices to school,” she added.

On the same occasion, the Head of the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT), Retired Police Commissioner General Eddy Hartono, also appreciated Komdigi’s firmness in enforcing PP Tunas.

“We have prevented 112 children from being exposed to terrorism through social media,” revealed Commissioner General Eddy.

He emphasised that BNPT will continue to carry out ongoing mitigation so that children do not become easy targets for terrorist networks that utilise social media as a means of spreading radical ideologies.

The government hopes that synergy between regulations, platform compliance, and parental supervision can create a safer digital ecosystem for children’s development in Indonesia.
