JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) has imposed an administrative sanction in the form of a warning letter to Google as the operator of the YouTube application.

“We issued it today, in line with the Director General’s letter released today, which is a sanction in the form of a warning letter to Google,” stated Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid, when met on Thursday (9/4/2026).

The sanction was given after the government assessed that YouTube has not fulfilled its compliance obligations with rules aimed at ensuring a safe and child-friendly digital space in Indonesia.

According to Meutya, the government has been committed from the outset to being transparent with the public regarding the implementation of child protection policies in the digital realm.

She explained that based on the results of an inspection by the Directorate General of Digital Space Supervision on 7 April 2026, it was found that YouTube has not met several obligations in the implementation of PP TUNAS.

The platform was also deemed not to have shown commitment or good faith to promptly adjust to the applicable legal provisions in Indonesia.

“We have indeed intended to be open from the start. This policy is very close to the public, so it needs to be conveyed that the government is giving a red note to Google, which oversees YouTube,” she said.

“I don’t want to speculate because I am still positive that the platform will comply and obey the law in Indonesia,” she added.

In addition to issuing the reprimand, Komdigi is also urging all other digital platforms to promptly ensure compliance with PP TUNAS.

The government is requesting that every platform submit an implementation plan for the policy and report the results of an independent risk profile assessment no later than within three months.
