Komdigi Promotes Critical Mineral Downstreaming to Strengthen Digital Sovereignty
The Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) is promoting the downstreaming and industrialisation of critical minerals as a strategic move to secure the nation’s digital sovereignty. Deputy Minister Nezar Patria stated that the National AI Roadmap is designed to encourage the safe and accountable utilisation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) while positioning Indonesia as a key player in the global supply chain.
To support this ambition, the government is also focusing on human resource development. Through the AI Talent Factory programme, Komdigi aims to equip the domestic workforce with the necessary digital skills to leverage and develop AI technology across various sectors, including agriculture, financial services, and healthcare.
Amid global economic uncertainty, the ministry also emphasised the need for fair international collaboration and mastery of technology to address the challenges of AI development. These remarks were made during an interview on CNBC Indonesia’s Economic Update programme.
