Komdigi Probes Alleged Violations by Meta and Google Regarding PP Tunas
Jakarta - The Ministry of Information and Digital (Komdigi) is delving into allegations of violations committed by Meta and Google concerning compliance with the implementation of Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic System Operators in Child Protection (PP Tunas). “We have submitted 29 questions to investigate the alleged violations of the regulation that has been declared applicable in Indonesia,” said Director General of Digital Space Supervision, Alexander Sabar, during a press conference at the Komdigi office in Jakarta on Tuesday (7/4/2026). Meta, which manages the platforms Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, was examined on Monday (6/4/2026). Meanwhile, Google, which oversees YouTube, is still undergoing examination today by Komdigi officials. Alex stated that Meta has signed the examination minutes (BAP) and promised to provide documents to supplement yesterday’s examination results. “Meta also promised to provide additional documents to complete what we did yesterday in the examination process,” he added. Alex explained that the questions focus on the implementation of Article 30 of the Minister’s Regulation on the Implementation of PP Tunas. “This is currently underway; we are entering the supervision phase of the PP Tunas implementation,” Alex concluded. The government has officially implemented Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic System Operators in Child Protection (PP Tunas). The regulation requires digital platforms to restrict children’s access based on age and to strengthen child personal data protection. PP Tunas has been effective since 28 March 2026, and every digital platform entity operating digitally is obliged to comply with its provisions. On Friday (27/3/2026), Minister of Digital Communication Meutya Hafid stated that X and Bigo Live have complied with the PP Tunas implementation by changing their application rules. Meanwhile, there are four digital platforms that have not yet declared compliance with PP Tunas, namely YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and Threads. Meutya conveyed that there is no compromise for platforms that violate the rules. The government is still awaiting compliance from those four applications.
