Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Communications and Digital Affairs Ministry (Kemkomdigi) has confirmed that communication infrastructure and radio-frequency spectrum management are being prepared to support the smooth running of the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia MotoGP 2026.

The motorcycle race, scheduled to take place at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit in West Nusa Tenggara on 9–11 October 2026, will be supported by monitoring more than 250 frequencies and deploying mobile base transceiver stations (BTS) to strengthen communication services around the circuit.

“MotoGP Mandalika is an international event that brings Indonesia’s name to the world. Communications support must operate without disruption, whether for rider safety, the organisers’ operations, broadcasts to various countries or the comfort of people attending in person. That is why all technical preparations must be ensured before the race begins,” Communications and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid said on Thursday while visiting the circuit.

The ministry’s Digital Infrastructure Control Directorate, together with the Mataram Radio Frequency Spectrum Monitoring Office (Balmon SFR), is supervising and controlling frequency use to prevent potential interference between communication systems.

To bolster coverage, Kemkomdigi is operating four mobile BTS units at the circuit.

The four units have been arranged in coordination with mobile network operators to increase telecommunications capacity, particularly in anticipation of higher traffic as visitors gather at the circuit.

The measures are intended to support race safety and operations, communications among teams and organisers, international broadcasting, and reliable telecommunications access for the estimated 200,000 spectators expected during MotoGP Mandalika.

According to Ananda, telemetry systems on racing motorcycles rely on data communications to help technical teams monitor and analyse vehicle performance, including engine, tyre and suspension conditions, as well as throttle and brake use.

“As the motorcycle is moving, various technical data must be received and analysed by the team in real time. Data from the engine, tyres and suspension, as well as throttle and brake use, are important to analysing the motorcycle’s performance. The communications system must therefore be reliable and must not be disrupted,” Ananda said.

“When an incident occurs on the track, information from race control must reach officials immediately so that safety measures, including the appropriate flags, can be deployed quickly. Media and broadcast requirements, for audiences around the world, also depend on this. All of it requires well-managed frequency support,” Ananda explained.

Ananda praised Kemkomdigi’s preparations and technical support in anticipating potential communication disruptions during the MotoGP event.

“We were initially concerned, particularly after hearing about frequency-support problems at races in several other countries. But the support from the Komdigi team has been excellent so far. We greatly appreciate the readiness and cooperation of all the teams in ensuring MotoGP Mandalika’s technical requirements are met,” Ananda said.

The preparations are intended to ensure that the international event enhances Indonesia’s standing as a host on the global stage.

“Indonesia’s success in hosting an international event also depends on the readiness of its supporting infrastructure. We want to ensure that all communication systems work properly, the race is held safely, broadcasts around the world run smoothly, and the public can enjoy MotoGP Mandalika comfortably,” Meutya concluded.
