Komdigi distributes connectivity devices following disaster in NTT
Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Angga Raka Prabowo said the distribution of Starlink devices is intended to support the communication and connectivity needs of the public and personnel handling the emergency response following the earthquake in Nagekeo Regency, East Nusa Tenggara.
The assistance was sent to ensure connectivity remains available during the emergency, particularly for disaster response posts and health service facilities that require communication access to support coordination and services for affected communities.
“In an emergency situation like this, communication must remain connected. Therefore, we are working to ensure connectivity support can reach the locations that need it, especially disaster response posts and health facilities,” Angga said.
The Starlink devices were handed over at two locations: the Flores Earthquake Joint Emergency Response Post in Nagekeo on Thursday, 20 August 2026, and Aeramo Regional Hospital on 19 August in Nagekeo Regency, one of the health facilities playing an important role in treating communities affected by the earthquake.
The Starlink assistance is expected to help health workers and disaster response teams remain connected, particularly when conventional communication networks experience disruption or limitations due to the disaster, and to ensure coordination and services to the public continue to operate.
According to Angga, technological support must be directly felt by the public, especially those facing difficult situations due to disasters.
The earthquake that struck the Flores region on 15 August 2026 affected a number of areas in East Nusa Tenggara. BMKG recorded that the updated parameters of the earthquake reached magnitude 7.7 with an epicentre approximately 30 kilometres northeast of Nagekeo.
The government, together with various elements, continues to accelerate response and recovery efforts, including strengthening health services and support for affected communities.
The Deputy Minister also stressed that the government will continue to encourage collaboration with various parties so that the support provided can truly meet the needs of communities on the ground.
“The most important thing is that the public does not feel alone. The government, together with all elements, will continue to strive to provide support according to needs on the ground. Hopefully this assistance can be beneficial and help accelerate the response and recovery process,” Angga concluded.
