The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) has officially restricted access to the Polymarket website (www.polymarket.com), a blockchain-based prediction market platform. According to Komdigi, Polymarket activities are categorised as online gambling because it facilitates cash bets on outcomes or events packaged as a Prediction Market using blockchain technology or crypto assets. ‘Activities like Polymarket involve wagering and speculation on uncertain events, which is contrary to the applicable laws in Indonesia,’ an official said. KompasTekno observed on Friday night (22/05/2026) that Polymarket had become inaccessible through both Wi‑Fi and mobile data networks; attempts to access it returned a message that ‘this site cannot be reached.’ In addition to site access restrictions, Komdigi is reviewing all social media accounts affiliated with Polymarket to broaden restrictions and block access comprehensively, given the potential for financial losses and violations of Indonesian law. It is noted that Polymarket had previously blocked access in several Asian countries, such as Taiwan, Thailand, China, and Japan. Singapore, Brazil, and India have even implemented full blocks on the site.
