The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) is currently awaiting the ratification of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Roadmap and a Presidential Regulation on AI Ethics and Governance by President Prabowo Subianto. Director General of Digital Ecosystem at Komdigi, Erwin Hidayat Abdullah, explained that the roadmap is designed as a guiding principle for ministries and agencies in implementing AI across various strategic sectors, such as transportation, health, education, and finance. Meanwhile, the AI Ethics Presidential Regulation is prioritised to ensure the responsible use of the technology. “It will be signed by the President soon,” Erwin stated during a public discussion in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, 15 July 2026. On the same occasion, Director of AI and New Technology Ecosystem at Komdigi, Aju Widya Sari, added that the draft provides direction for Indonesia’s AI ecosystem until 2029. She noted that AI’s enormous economic potential must be aligned with the government’s vision and mission. To support the national AI ecosystem, Komdigi is promoting stronger regulation, investment, and the establishment of three main pillars: Human Resources and Talent, Research and Innovation, and AI Infrastructure and Capability. “Without investment and financing, we cannot build our own strength. Without these pillars, we will only be AI users,” Aju said. She also stressed the importance of ethics and protection in AI use, including boundaries for both users and industry players. “The greater the risk of AI use, the greater the responsibility of all actors involved, including Komdigi,” she added. Previously, Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid announced the completion of the National AI White Paper, compiled collaboratively by 443 practitioners from government, academia, industry, communities, and the media. “Ethical and policy readiness is key to ensuring AI development and utilisation are carried out responsibly, transparently, and uphold human values and justice,” Meutya stated in the White Paper document on 11 August 2025. She noted that the initiative permit for the AI Presidential Regulation has been submitted to the Ministry of State Secretariat for immediate issuance. Deputy Minister Nezar Patria added that the draft regulation focuses on the basic principles of technology adoption, rules of engagement, and risk awareness.
