Malang, East Java (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) and Brawijaya University (UB) are preparing a prototype artificial intelligence (AI)-based module to monitor student behaviour at Sekolah Rakyat. The work is being undertaken through the second batch of the AI Talent Factory (AITF), held at UB’s Faculty of Computer Science building.

Gunawan Hutagalung, head of the Digital Talent Development Centre at Komdigi’s Human Resources Development Agency, said in Malang on Wednesday that the prototype was designed to help residential staff prevent students from behaving in ways that could harm the environment or other students.

“In Batch II, we are building a module similar to a boarding management system that will provide early detection to prevent harmful behaviour at Sekolah Rakyat,” Gunawan said.

The monitoring equipment at Sekolah Rakyat will consist of CCTV cameras equipped with AI systems.

He said the technology was needed because the schools cover large areas and operate as boarding schools, requiring detailed monitoring.

“The AI is not general-purpose but customised. Essentially, the participants already have a basic prototype,” he said.

UB Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Professor Imam Santoso said the proposed monitoring system would form part of efforts to mitigate bullying and intolerance at Sekolah Rakyat.

“The participants will study and map the conditions on the ground, and then work out how to mitigate them,” he said.

Sabriansyah Rizqika Akbar, UB’s Faculty of Computer Science vice-dean for academic affairs, said the AI-based module was still at an early design stage and needed further development before it could be deemed ready for operation.

“We hope this room will produce a model that can be developed to prevent bullying and other problems,” he said.
