Komdigi: AI Adoption Reaches 92%, Mobile Operators Have Potential to Optimise Implementation in Daily Life
Research conducted in Indonesia regarding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) shows that 97% of respondents acknowledge AI already plays a role in their daily lives. Respondents use AI for information searching (80%), communication and translation (70%), assisting with work or tasks (68%), entertainment and creativity (60%), navigation and travel (49%), and shopping and recommendations (3%). Furthermore, the survey indicates that the most widely used AI solution is generative AI chatbots, at 83%. The correlation between AI and Indonesian society is also reinforced by data from the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi), which states that the AI adoption rate in Indonesia has reached 92% and affirms AI as a pillar of national productivity. Responding to the public’s responsiveness in using AI, CEO of Yandex Search International Alexander Popovskiy stated that companies are advised to utilise AI technology capabilities to produce more personalised AI services. AI services tailored to Indonesian conditions are expected to better meet consumer needs and preferences, unlike global AI services which are more generalist in nature. Popovskiy said his company is introducing AI solutions specifically designed for the telecommunications industry in Indonesia. This solution is expected to encourage telecom operators to bring AI-based products to market more quickly. “Telecom operator companies have a large user base, trusted brands, and mature infrastructure distribution. These conditions form an important foundation for launching AI products on a national scale,” said Popovskiy. Options include telecom operators integrating their services into Yandex’s existing AI products, or adopting Yandex technology into their own ecosystems. Additionally, operators can launch standalone AI products using Yandex AI technology under their own brand identity. The AI technology choices being developed include AI-powered customer support for help services, virtual assistants, and self-service features for checking balances and account management. Thus, telecommunications services become more easily accessible through more organic and intuitive interactions. “We see great potential for telecom operators to lead the wave of expanding AI adoption. They already have millions of customers and the infrastructure to reach the public widely. So the real benefits of AI technology can be delivered to users without needing to wait much longer. They only need the right tools to build AI services, which will then become part of people’s daily lives.” Yandex, Popovskiy explained, is a Russian company that develops various products and services based on machine learning. Since 1997, Yandex has provided locally relevant search and information services, as well as developing various digital services, including on-demand transport, navigation, and mobile applications used by millions of users in various countries.
