Komdigi: 812 BTS Sites Affected by NTT Earthquake Now 100% Restored

The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) has confirmed that telecommunications infrastructure in areas affected by the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) earthquake has returned to normal. A total of 812 base transceiver station (BTS) sites spread across eight affected districts have now been restored 100 percent.

This was conveyed by the Director General of Public Communication and Media at Komdigi, Fifi Aleyda Yahya, during the handover of Komdigi assistance for earthquake victims in NTT at Wisma NTT, Tebet, South Jakarta, on Saturday (22/8/2026).

“Alhamdulillah, as of today, the report regarding connectivity in the earthquake-affected areas shows that of the 812 BTS points or sites, 100 percent have now been restored across the 8 affected districts in NTT,” Fifi told reporters at the location.

Although all BTS sites have been repaired, Komdigi is still sending 20 Starlink communication devices.

“As for Starlink, there is certainly no harm in providing reinforcement if there are still points that are affected, for example. But from the latest report, we have been able to restore all BTS in the earthquake-affected areas,” she said.

Fifi said the 20 Starlink units could serve as a solution amid communication network disruptions that may occur in earthquake-affected locations.

“Hopefully this can also be beneficial so that connectivity runs smoothly and our extended family in NTT can continue to communicate with their loved ones, relatives, and also to facilitate disaster management on the ground,” Fifi hoped.

In addition to communication equipment assistance, Komdigi also distributed 15 tonnes of logistical aid. The assistance consisted of food, milk, blankets, and medicines.

“Today, representing the Minister and the ministry, with permission from Ms Christine, we would like to convey greetings and prayers for the community, our family in NTT affected by the disaster,” Fifi said.

The assistance from Komdigi was received directly by the management of the NTT Liaison Agency. The Head of Administrative Affairs at the NTT Liaison Agency, Christine, expressed gratitude to Komdigi for the assistance provided.

When asked about the placement of the Starlink units from Komdigi, Christine said her team would coordinate with field teams who better understand the geographical conditions and post-disaster needs.

“The distribution of the points will likely be determined by the team there, because they know which locations are most in need,” Christine said.

She expressed hope that the signal reinforcement through Starlink would help NTT migrants monitor the condition of their families back home.

“So hopefully with the Starlink assistance, the signal will be strengthened. So that migrants like us can know the condition of our parents and families there,” Christine said.

Previously, the Acting Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Centre, Berton SP Panjaitan, said the number of displaced people had increased to 110,785 and there were 83 fatalities as of now.

“As of today at 16.00 WIB, Friday, 21 August 2026, the death toll has risen to 83, up from 75 reported yesterday, an increase of 8,” Berton said in an online press conference on Friday (21/8/2026).
