Komcad Member Sentenced to One Year for Illegal Firearm Sales

The Denpasar District Court has sentenced Akhmad Soleh Ricardo to one year in prison for the possession and attempted sale of an illegal homemade firearm. The verdict, delivered by Presiding Judge Aline Oktavia Kurnia on Thursday, was lighter than the 1 year and 3 months sought by Public Prosecutor Ni Luh Hartini Puspita Sari. “The defendant Akhmad Soleh Ricardo has been legally and convincingly proven guilty of committing the criminal act as charged under Article 306 of the Criminal Code. Therefore, the defendant is sentenced to imprisonment for 1 year,” Judge Aline stated while reading the ruling. Two other defendants, MHD Harold Patrick and Muhammad Tegar Khadafi, were each sentenced to 7 months in prison, also lighter than the 1-year sentence demanded by the prosecution. They were found guilty of violating Article 21 paragraph (1) of the Emergency Law Number 12 of 1951. All three men are members of the Indonesian Armed Forces’ Reserve Component (Komcad). Both the defendants and the prosecutor accepted the verdict. The case began when Akhmad purchased a homemade Sig Sauer-type firearm from Harold for IDR 14 million. The weapon was then shipped from Lampung to Bali with the assistance of Khadafi. Court proceedings revealed the assembled pistol was concealed with tape, and the bullets were hidden inside a cigarette box before being placed in a cardboard box labelled as snacks and souvenirs for shipment via an expedition service. After receiving the weapon in Bali, Akhmad stored it at his home in the Jimbaran area, Badung. He later attempted to resell it for IDR 35 million, with the price negotiated down to IDR 33 million. However, before the transaction could take place on Jalan Buana Raya, West Denpasar, on 22 January 2026, Akhmad was apprehended by authorities. A forensic laboratory examination confirmed the homemade pistol was fully functional and capable of firing. Police also seized four active 9 x 19 millimetre live rounds. During the sentencing hearing, legal counsel Evi Sitohang had requested leniency, arguing that Akhmad was polite during the trial, had no prior criminal record, and was the breadwinner for his family of three children. Muhammad Tegar Khadafi also sought a lighter sentence, claiming he was still a fifth-semester student at the Open University and was unaware the package contained a firearm, having only assisted at the request of a senior during Komcad training.
