Kolaka (ANTARA) - The Kolaka Regency Government is preparing green open spaces (RTH) or educational venues to support the government’s policy on restricting social media (social media) use for children under 16 years old in Kolaka Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province (Sultra). Kolaka Regent Amri, when met in Kolaka on Monday, stated that this step is an effort to divert children’s habits from playing on social media and the internet to productive activities. “We have prepared educational spaces or green open spaces, one of which is Taman Kota Mekongga,” said Amri. According to him, restricting social media access will make children more diligent in studying, strengthen discipline, and minimise the negative impacts from the risks of that digital technology. Amri conveyed that to reinforce this restriction, his side has also issued a Circular Letter (SE) regarding the restriction of social media access for children under 16 years old to protect the young generation in the digital space, last Friday (20/2). “We have also issued a circular on restricting mobile phone use in the school environment,” said Amri. Moreover, he continued, some content containing negative elements such as ethnicity, religion, race, and inter-group (SARA) as well as pornography is very dangerous for children. “This social media restriction is very good. Because, if social media is used by underage children, they might misuse it,” he explained.
