KOI Strengthens Safeguarding with Active Participation in Global Summit

The Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) is strengthening athlete protection in its Safeguarding programme by actively participating in the IWG Global Summit on Women & Sport 2026 in Birmingham, England. “Many good practices can be adapted from the IWG Global Summit Women & Sport 2026 to strengthen the implementation of Safeguarding in Indonesia,” said KOI Safeguarding Officer Tabitha Sumendap in an official statement in Jakarta on Monday. The IWG Global Summit on Women & Sport 2026, which took place from 9 to 11 July, is the world’s largest forum discussing progress on gender equality in sport. Over three days, participants discussed various strategic issues, ranging from women’s leadership in sport, gender policy, sport safety, innovation, and investment, to cross-country collaboration to create sustainable change for women and girls in the world of sport. Tabitha said the forum provided a new perspective on the importance of building a Safeguarding system that is not only present in the form of regulations but also becomes a culture within sports organisations. Chair of the KOI Commission for Gender Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion, Zavnura Pingkan, said KOI’s participation in the forum was an important step in expanding international collaboration to accelerate the implementation of gender equality in national sports. “We see that the issue of gender equity is no longer a supplementary agenda, but part of modern sports governance,” she said.
