The Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) is partnering with the Sampoerna Foundation to strengthen Indonesia’s student-athlete programme, aiming to build an athlete development ecosystem that pursues not only sporting achievement but also education and character building. KOI Chairman Raja Sapta Oktohari stated during a press conference in Jakarta on Thursday that Indonesian athletes must have equal opportunities to develop, both as champions in the sporting arena and as individuals ready to face the future. He emphasised that education is a crucial foundation for shaping athletes who are resilient, adaptive, and capable of competing globally. The collaboration is expected to provide international educational support for athletes through the Sampoerna Academy and Sampoerna University network, including an IELTS preparation programme for international higher education, English for Academic Purposes (EAP), General Education Development (GED), Individual Learning Plans, academic mentoring, and scholarship opportunities. Through academic mentoring, capacity building, and scholarship opportunities, the programme aims to help athletes develop holistically and become future leaders. Under this programme, young swimmer Michael Xander Samosir has obtained a scholarship to the United States. KOI and the Sampoerna Foundation will continue to encourage Indonesian athletes to develop their potential through education while remaining focused on their sporting careers.
