The General Chair of Korps HMI-Wati (Kohati) Pengurus Besar Himpunan Mahasiswa Islam (PB HMI), Sri Meisista, has condemned the alleged sexual violence committed by officials of Lembaga Teknologi Mahasiswa Islam (LTMI) PB HMI against a female student at Universitas Islam Sultan Agung (Unissula) Semarang. The alleged victim is also a cadre of HMI Korkom Sultan Agung Semarang.

“Sexual violence occurring in Semarang is a harsh slap to us all. This is not only a matter of legal violation but also a betrayal of the basic values of struggle that we have upheld,” Meisista said in her statement on Sunday (29/3/2026).

In response to the case of alleged sexual violence against a HMI Korkom Sultan Agung Semarang cadre, Meisista urged PB HMI to boldly take a firm stance by not protecting the alleged perpetrators. She also encouraged handling the matter through legal and organisational channels.

“Today we must be firm; there is no tolerance for sexual violence within HMI. Whoever the perpetrator is must be held accountable legally and organisationally, because HMI is not just about cadre development, but about safeguarding human dignity,” Meisista stated.

According to Meisista, such a firm stance is not to tarnish HMI’s image. “On the contrary, this is an effort to nurture, improve, and elevate HMI’s dignity as an organisation that upholds Islamic values, intellectualism, and humanity,” she said.

She emphasised that HMI was born as an intellectual and moral organisation. Therefore, there is no room, however small, for perpetrators who degrade human dignity, especially towards women.

“Protecting HMI-Wati is not just a slogan, but our moral and ideological responsibility. There should no longer be any abuse of power relations, and no female bodies should be treated as objects,” Meisista said.

She stated that the relationship between HMI-Wan and HMI-Wati must be built on the basis of equal partnership within the organisation. Both are partners in generating ideas, serving the community, and fighting for the nation.
