Kodam XVII/Cenderawasih Condemns Alleged Civilian Killings in Yahukimo

Kodam XVII/Cenderawasih has strongly condemned the alleged killing of two civilians by an armed criminal group (KKB) in Seradala District, Yahukimo Regency, Papua Highlands, on Wednesday (22/7).

Head of Information for Kodam XVII/Cenderawasih, Colonel Inf Tri Purwanto, confirmed the incident and expressed harsh condemnation for the suspected act of violence against unarmed civilians. “Kodam XVII/Cenderawasih strongly condemns the KKB’s cruelty against unarmed civilians. Civilians should be protected and not become targets of violence under any circumstances,” he said in a written statement in Wamena on Thursday.

He extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved family and hoped they would remain patient following the tragedy. Kodam XVII/Cenderawasih shares in the grief of the loss and hopes the evacuation process for the victims can proceed safely and smoothly. “We offer our deepest condolences to the families of the victims. We also ask for prayers and support from the community so that the evacuation process carried out by joint officers can proceed smoothly, allowing the victims to be handed over to their families for a proper burial,” he stated.

He urged the public to remain calm, increase vigilance, and immediately report to authorities if they become aware of any activities that could potentially disrupt security in their surroundings. “Community participation is crucial in maintaining security and order in the region. Based on initial information gathered by officers, the two victims are believed to be a married couple named Kumis Kogoya and Seli Wenda, both of whom are indigenous Papuans (OAP),” he said.
