Kodam Secures One TNI Member Suspected of Involvement in Machete Attack on Two Brimob Officers in Serang
Kodam III/Siliwante has detained Corporal R, who is suspected of involvement in the machete attack against two members of the Banten Regional Police Brimob unit in Serang City. R is alleged to have participated in the assault when a group of debt collectors attempted to repossess the victim’s car.
“We have processed the case, and he has been named a suspect. There are suspicions of him acting as a protector (beking),” stated the Head of Kodam III/Siliwangi Information, Colonel Mahmuddin Abdillah, on Thursday (4/6/2026).
The perpetrator is currently being detained and is undergoing further legal proceedings at Denpom III/4 Serang.
According to Abdillah, the soldier was present at the scene in front of Fatimah Hospital, Serang, on Tuesday (2/6). Reports have circulated suggesting that R was acting as a supporter or protector for the debt collectors. Based on initial investigations by Kodam Siliwangi, R spontaneously became involved in the assault. However, a comprehensive investigation is still ongoing.
“Because there was a dispute at the location, he attempted to intervene. Since it began with a physical assault, and he did not know who was being hit, he ultimately joined in the violence,” he explained.
Abdillah emphasised that the military will not tolerate personnel involved in illegal activities and guaranteed that the legal process against the suspect will proceed. “Whether it goes viral like this or not, we will still impose punishment. We simply do not tolerate such actions,”
Previously, the Banten Regional Police arrested a group of debt collectors involved in the mob attack and machete assault in Serang. To date, four debt collectors have been apprehended, while six others remain at large.
“Yesterday, we secured two more perpetrators. This brings the total number of arrested perpetrators to four,” said the Director of Criminal Investigation of Banten Regional Police, Kombes Dian Setyawan.
Dian stated that the arrested individuals acted as executors in the mob attack. Some allegedly threw stones at the victims and issued threats. “All of them were present at the location. Some participated in throwing stones, and through threats and extortion, they attempted to seize the victim’s vehicle, a 2024 Daihatsu Xenia.”
Police are currently hunting the remaining six suspects. “We have identified all six individuals, and the pursuit is ongoing in several locations,” he added.
