Kodam Palaka Wira Deploys Personnel for Post-Earthquake Response in Sigi
Sigi, Central Sulawesi (ANTARA) - Kodam XXIII/Palaka Wira has deployed personnel from the 873/Mareso Masagena Territorial Development Infantry Battalion (Yon TP) to assist in post-disaster handling following a 6.7-magnitude earthquake in Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi.
“Kodam XXIII/Palaka Wira will continue to synergise with the regional government, the National Police, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), and all relevant elements to ensure that the handling of the earthquake’s impact proceeds quickly, precisely, and effectively, while providing a sense of security to the community,” said Major General TNI J. Binsar P. Sianipar, Commander of Kodam XXIII/Palaka Wira, in Sigi on Wednesday.
He stated that the deployment of personnel was carried out to assist the regional government in accelerating the handling of the earthquake’s impact while ensuring the needs of the affected community can be met. The Yon TP 873/MM personnel were dispatched from the Kodam XXIII/Palaka Wira headquarters carrying field equipment to support various humanitarian tasks in the affected areas, particularly in Kamarora Village, Nokilalaki District, Sigi Regency.
According to the Commander, the deployed personnel will carry out various activities in the field, including assisting with evacuation, supporting aid distribution, setting up emergency facilities, and helping the community restore environmental conditions after the disaster.
In addition to deploying personnel, the Commander, together with the Governor of Central Sulawesi and the Regent of Sigi, also conducted monitoring and direct inspection of the earthquake’s impact in several affected areas in Sigi Regency. On that occasion, he and members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) received reports regarding the condition of the affected areas, potential subsequent risks, and the handling measures that have been and are being undertaken.
He affirmed that the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) is ready to fully support post-disaster handling efforts through the deployment of personnel from territorial command units, the Territorial Development Infantry Battalion, Kodam executive agencies, and supporting facilities to assist the earthquake-affected community. He also urged the public to remain calm, increase vigilance, and follow the directives from the government and field officers.
His party ensured that the ranks of Kodam XXIII/Palaka Wira remain on standby to assist in the emergency response and post-disaster recovery process.
Based on the latest data from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) as of Wednesday at 06:00 Western Indonesia Time, a total of 1,834 families or the equivalent of 5,784 individuals were affected by the 6.7-magnitude earthquake in four districts/cities of Central Sulawesi. From this casualty count, BNPB received reports that Sigi Regency was the area that experienced the most severe impact, with details of affected victims reaching 1,813 families or 5,744 individuals, 71 people suffering minor injuries, three people seriously injured, and one person dead.
In addition to casualties, the tremor in Sigi Regency caused massive infrastructure damage, with details of 1,074 houses suffering minor damage, 110 houses moderately damaged, and 30 residential houses severely damaged. Meanwhile, in Palu City, two injuries were reported, in Poso Regency one resident was injured, and Parigi Moutong Regency reported 21 families or 40 individuals affected.
