Kodam VI/Mulawarman (Mlw) confirmed that the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) provided official security assistance to the Kutai Barat Public Prosecutor’s Office (Kejari Kubar) in East Kalimantan to ensure a safe, orderly, and conducive environment during the execution of a final and binding court ruling. This was stated by Kodam VI/Mulawarman Commander Major General Krido Pramono, via the Kodam VI/Mulawarman Public Affairs Officer (Kapendam) Colonel Gatot Teguh Waluyo (Infantry), on Tuesday (26/5), following viral social media videos showing TNI personnel involved in the security operations during the execution of a court ruling against BP Anak, son of the late DW, in Kutai Barat Regency.

“The presence of TNI personnel in the activity constitutes official security assistance to the Kejari Kubar under Prosecutor’s Office Letter No. B-586/O.4.19.3/Es.2/05/2026 dated 22 May 2026,” he said. He explained that the security assistance forms part of inter-agency synergy to support the smooth execution of law enforcement duties and maintain regional security stability. The TNI’s presence in supporting the Prosecutor’s Office activities also aligns with the Memorandum of Understanding between the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Republic of Indonesia Prosecutor’s Office No. NK/6/IV/2023/TNI dated 6 April 2023, which includes security support for the Prosecutor’s Office’s duties.

During the operation, he added, the Indonesian National Police (Polri) deployed personnel from Melak Police Station and Kutai Barat Police Resort as the primary law enforcement and security personnel according to their duties and authority. TNI personnel were present to provide official security assistance to the Prosecutor’s Office, helping maintain controlled security conditions. “We stress that TNI personnel are not involved in legal processes, case examinations, legal decision-making, or repressive actions against the public,” he said.

LEGAL PROCESS

Meanwhile, he stated that all law enforcement and execution processes fall entirely under the authority of relevant law enforcement agencies in accordance with applicable regulations. Security presence was required due to prior potential security threats, resistance from the convict’s family and supporters, escalating crowd tensions, and threats against execution officers. “In such circumstances, security personnel are necessary to help prevent anarchic actions that could endanger the public and on-ground officers,” said the Public Affairs Officer.

He noted that on-site facts showed the situation had briefly escalated due to resistance against execution officers, including acts of rebellion, assaults on prosecutors, and choking of operational vehicle drivers during the escort process. “Nevertheless, all security personnel worked to prevent the situation from escalating into a larger conflict,” he added.

HUMANITARIAN APPROACH

He added that all security personnel from Polri and TNI maintained a humane, persuasive, professional, and measured approach throughout the operation. No repressive actions were taken against the public or the convict’s family. He also urged the public not to be influenced by social media snippets or one-sided narratives without understanding the full sequence of events. Digital information should be handled wisely and proportionally to avoid misunderstandings or opinions that could exacerbate public tensions.

“Kodam VI/Mulawarman remains committed to supporting regional security stability, respecting applicable legal processes, and ensuring all TNI personnel perform duties professionally, measuredly, and within legal boundaries,” concluded the Public Affairs Officer.
