Kodam I/BB completes hundreds of bridges in North Sumatra to ease residents' access

Kodam I/Bukit Barisan has completed the construction of hundreds of suspension bridges, known as Perintis Garuda bridges, in North Sumatra to ease access for residents in the region.

Commander of Kodam I/Bukit Barisan, Major General TNI Hendy Antariksa, in a statement received in Medan on Monday, said that 256 bridges have been completed out of a target of 323 Perintis Garuda bridges since December 2025.

The commander said the remainder are still in the process of being built by personnel together with local communities.

“The purpose of building the Perintis Garuda bridges is to provide good and proper access to the people of North Sumatra,” he said.

“The construction of these suspension bridges is expected to be utilised as well as possible, so as to improve the economy, social activities, access to education and health services, making them easier,” he said.

The construction of the suspension bridges is a concrete manifestation of the Indonesian Army’s commitment to helping overcome the difficulties faced by the public through infrastructure development that has a direct impact on residents’ lives.

In addition to building Perintis Garuda bridges, Kodam I/BB is also focused on meeting the basic need for clean water at 511 water points, and this number will continue to grow in the future.
