Kodaeral VIII Deploys KRI Selar to Aid Sangihe-Talaud Earthquake Victims

Kodaeral VIII has deployed KRI Selar-879 to carry out a humanitarian mission assisting communities affected by the earthquake in the Sangihe Islands Regency and Talaud Islands Regency, North Sulawesi. The deployment of this Indonesian Navy asset is a form of rapid response to support disaster management and ensure the community’s needs can be promptly met, said Kodaeral VIII Commander Rear Admiral Dery Triesananto Suhendi in Manado on Wednesday. He explained that KRI Selar-879 is carrying various logistical aid, including foodstuffs, clean water, medicines, and emergency equipment. It is also mobilising personnel support to assist the aid distribution process and the handling of affected residents. The presence of KRI Selar-879 is expected to accelerate the distribution of aid to island areas that are difficult to reach, whilst supporting the efforts of the regional government and related agencies in post-disaster recovery. Through synergy with various parties, the Navy will continue to be present to provide assistance and support to ease the burden on residents and accelerate the recovery of conditions in the Sangihe and Talaud Islands following the earthquake. On Monday (8/6), at 06:37:42 WIB, the southern coast of Mindanao, Philippines, was shaken by a tectonic earthquake, and BMKG analysis indicated this earthquake had a magnitude of 7.7 at a depth of 47 kilometres. The earthquake’s epicentre was located at coordinates 5.80° N; 125.14° E, precisely at sea at a distance of 244 kilometres northwest of Karatung Island, North Sulawesi.
