KNPI Supports Agriculture Minister Amran in Crackdown on Rice Mafia Causing State Losses

The Central Executive Board of the National Committee of Indonesian Youth (KNPI) has declared its support for the actions of the Minister of Agriculture, Andi Amran Sulaiman, in eradicating alleged rice mafia practices deemed detrimental to the public and the state. This expression of support was conveyed by the General Chairman of KNPI, Ali Hanafia, following a meeting with the Minister of Agriculture at Amran Sulastomo’s residence on Sunday, 2 August 2026.

The meeting was attended by several youth organisations to discuss developments within the national agricultural sector. During the session, Minister Amran presented various government achievements in agriculture, including claims of Indonesia achieving rice self-sufficiency after previously relying on imports.

According to Ali, these achievements serve as a critical momentum for the government to ensure that food governance operates transparently and is not exploited by certain parties. “The success of rice self-sufficiency is an achievement that deserves appreciation. However, amidst these achievements, there are still rogue elements manipulating rice trade for personal gain at the expense of the community,” said Ali Hanafia.

He assessed that alleged rice mafia practices could affect food prices and burden the public, noting that such practices also have the potential to cause significant losses to the state. “The state must not lose to food mafias that manipulate the basic needs of the people,” he stated.

KNPI has expressed its support for government efforts, including law enforcement measures against parties suspected of hoarding or irregularities in the rice trade. “KNPI stands behind the President of the Republic of Indonesia and the Minister of Agriculture. We support law enforcement against the rice mafia and other mafias that damage the agricultural sector,” Ali said.

Ali emphasised that KNPI is prepared to oversee government policies to build a clean, transparent food system that favours the people. “KNPI is ready to be at the forefront in supporting the eradication of the rice mafia to maintain national food security and protect the interests of the people,” he concluded.
