Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (PP Tunas) serves as evidence that the state is not standing idle in the face of technology’s negative impacts. This represents a tangible commitment to the future of Indonesia’s young generation.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian National Youth Committee (KNPI) states that PP Tunas is a strategic and progressive effort to protect young people.

Rian Simanjuntak, Head of the Media and Opinion Mobilisation Division of KNPI, said the introduction of PP Tunas is a strategic and progressive step in addressing the increasingly complex challenges of the digital era, particularly in protecting the young generation from various risks in cyberspace.

“PP Tunas is proof that the state is not standing idle in facing the negative impacts of technological developments. This is a real form of support for the future of Indonesia’s young generation,” said Rian Simanjuntak in Jakarta on Sunday.

KNPI also highlighted several important points in PP Tunas, including the obligation for digital platforms to conduct age verification, filter harmful content, and protect children’s personal data from commercial exploitation.

Furthermore, the strengthening of the roles of parents, society, and educational institutions in supervising children’s digital activities is an important part in creating a healthy and responsible digital ecosystem.

KNPI assesses that PP Tunas also serves as an important momentum to enhance digital literacy among the youth, so that they are not only technology users but are also able to act wisely, critically, and responsibly in utilising digital spaces.

Further, it encourages all electronic system providers, including global platforms, to comply with applicable regulations in Indonesia as a form of responsibility for child protection.

“KNPI also invites all elements of society, especially the young generation, to actively participate in maintaining a healthy digital space, by reporting harmful content and prioritising ethics in online interactions,” he said.

With the presence of PP Tunas, KNPI is optimistic that Indonesia can build a safer, more inclusive, and sustainable digital ecosystem, for the sake of creating an excellent young generation in the future.

In agreement, Imran Pambudi, Director of Health Services for Vulnerable Groups at the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes), assessed that the presence of this regulation is important amid the increasing use of social media and digital platforms by children and adolescents, which in some cases can trigger addictive behaviour, sleep disorders, and mental health problems.

In Ministerial Regulation of Komdigi Number 9 of 2026 as the implementing regulation of PP Tunas, it is explained that several sanctions apply to platforms that do not comply with the rules, including administrative sanctions in the form of warning letters, temporary access suspension, to access termination.

This regulation is effective from 28 March 2026, restricting children from high-risk digital platforms, especially for its initial implementation applying to eight digital platforms namely YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Threads, Instagram, X, Bigo Live, and Roblox.
