Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Central Board of the Indonesian National Youth Committee (DPP KNPI) remembers the late member of the Financial Audit Board (BPK) of the Republic of Indonesia, Haerul Saleh, as a figure with great concern for the younger generation and consistently pushing for youth involvement in national development.

“The Indonesian nation has lost one of the figures who was close to youth circles. The late not only a state official but also a friend to many young people who want to learn about service, integrity, and nation-building,” said the General Chairman of the Central Board of the Indonesian National Youth Committee (DPP KNPI), Haris Pertama, in his statement in Jakarta on Friday.

According to Haris, during his lifetime, Haerul Saleh actively engaged in dialogues with youth activists and encouraged the younger generation not to be apathetic towards national issues, especially in overseeing transparent development that benefits the people.

“He always believed that Indonesia’s future is very much determined by the quality of its youth. Therefore, he often encouraged young people not to be apathetic towards national issues and to participate in overseeing clean development that prioritises the people’s interests,” he said.

Haris assessed that Haerul Saleh’s approach to the younger generation was one of the factors that made the late respected by various circles. Even while serving as a BPK RI member, Haerul was said to remain open to youth aspirations and easily accessible to youth organisations.

“He was an example of a leader who remained grounded. Many youths felt comfortable discussing with him because he always listened seriously and provided constructive insights,” he stated.

In addition to actively building communication with youth, Haerul Saleh was also known for his commitment to strengthening accountability and oversight of state finances as part of efforts to realise just and sustainable national development.

KNPI hopes that the values of service and integrity demonstrated by Haerul Saleh can serve as an example for the younger generation in strengthening public participation and oversight of national development.

“Farewell, Bang Haerul Saleh. His dedication and concern for the younger generation will always be an example,” said Haris.

Previously, Haerul Saleh was reported to have passed away after his home experienced a fire disaster. This was also reported by Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman.

The late Haerul Saleh was taken to Pasar Minggu General Hospital (RSUD), Jakarta. The fire at Haerul’s residence in the Tanjung Barat area occurred on Friday morning.

Dozens of fire engines were also deployed to tackle the incident.
