KNPI Distributes Aid to Hundreds of Children Affected by Aceh Floods
An event to assist flood victims in Aceh during Ramadan was held as part of social efforts to support communities in the holy month. Hundreds of children affected by floods in Aceh Tengah and Bireuen regencies received aid through a humanitarian programme organised by the national youth organisation KNPI. The Ramadan Ceria-Synergy of Harmony initiative, run by the KNPI’s Central Executive Board (DPP KNPI), involved visiting affected areas.
KNPI Chairman Haris Pertama attended the event alongside Aceh KNPI Chairman Aulia Rahman, and the Chairman of KNPI Lampung, among others. In Aceh Tengah, the delegation not only distributed aid but also engaged with residents living in the Kala Segi temporary shelters. ‘The atmosphere of togetherness was felt as volunteers and residents prepared meals for breaking the fast together,’ Haris said in a statement.
In addition, KNPI donated a cow, which was prepared and shared with residents as a symbol of solidarity in the post-disaster period. ‘When we arrived, we saw how the community, especially children, remain resilient in the face of the disaster. Therefore, we want this Ramadan to bring happiness to them,’ he added.
During the event, KNPI provided cash donations to 500 flood-affected children in Aceh Tengah to be used according to family needs. In addition to cash, KNPI distributed aid from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) in the form of 1,000 ready-to-eat fish portions and a water tank to help residents in the affected locations.
‘We are giving cash so they can use it according to their needs. We hope this assistance can ease the burden on families during this difficult period,’ Haris said.
A similar initiative was also held in Bireuen with cash assistance to 250 children. Haris stressed that the activity is not merely aid distribution, but a tangible expression of Indonesia’s youth’s concern for communities facing calamities. He also expressed appreciation for President Prabowo Subianto’s attention to Aceh’s flood-affected population, and thanked donors and various parties contributing to the humanitarian effort.
Earlier, KNPI Aceh had held a breaking-of-fast gathering in Banda Aceh on Tuesday (3/3) attended by former KNPI leaders, where aid was also distributed to 100 orphans. Aceh Tengah Regent Haili Yoga, who attended the Bireuen event, expressed appreciation for KNPI’s concern for flood-affected residents, saying: ‘We are very grateful for KNPI’s attention. Their presence brings the spirit for people to recover from adversity.’
