SOLO - The National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) has reminded drivers to be vigilant about the risk of tyre blow-outs during long journeys, including travel during the Eid holiday period.

Tyres are a vital component in direct contact with the road, and their condition is crucial to road safety.

KNKT emphasises the importance of inspecting tyres before travelling. Ensure that tyre tread depth remains adequate and does not exceed the wear indicator limit.

“Tyre pressure can decrease during travel, either due to environmental temperature or minor leaks. This is why it is important to regularly check tyre pressure, as insufficient air pressure is the sole cause of tyre blow-outs,” Wildan told KOMPAS.com on Tuesday (10 March 2026).

Tyre air pressure must comply with the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations. Underinflated tyres risk increased heat buildup and potential blow-outs.

“Ensure that the tyres you will be using for your journey are in good condition, with no damage such as visible threads or wires, bulges, and so forth,” Wildan said.

KNKT also advised against carrying excessive loads. Overloading increases the stress on tyres, causing them to heat up excessively.

Drivers are also recommended to take regular breaks. When stopping at rest areas, tyres should be checked again to ensure there is no damage.

Beyond the main tyres, the condition of spare tyres also requires inspection. Many drivers often neglect spare tyres, leaving them unprepared for emergency situations.

By conducting simple inspections before travelling, the risk of tyre blow-outs during the Eid holiday period can be minimised. Proper vehicle preparation is a key factor in ensuring safe long-distance travel.
