A major accident involving a long-distance train and the KRL Commuter Line took place at Bekasi Timur Station in Bekasi City on Monday evening (27/4/2026).

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) President Director Bobby Rasyidin commented on the collision between the Argo Bromo Anggrek train and the KRL Commuter Line on the Jakarta-Cikarang route.

“The incident happened just before 9 pm, starting with a green taxi axle at track point 85. This is what we suspect disrupted the railway system in the area of the platform at Bekasi Timur Station, and that’s the chronology,” Bobby stated in a video statement from the Ministry of Transportation on Tuesday (28/4/2026).

“Of course, we are leaving it to the KNKT to investigate the details of the cause of this train accident,” Bobby added.

Bobby further explained that the evacuation of victims began with the cutting of the damaged carriages.

“We have cut the Argo Bromo Anggrek train consist, part of it, perhaps half, has been pulled to Bekasi,” said Doddy.

Additionally, according to Bobby, the victims of this accident were passengers on the KRL.

“(The victims) are on the KRL, on the last carriage of the KRL,” Bobby stated.

Minister of Transportation Hands Over Investigation to KNKT

Meanwhile, Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi expressed deep sympathy and condolences for the deceased victims. Dudy also hoped for swift recovery for the injured victims.

Subsequently, Dudy fully handed over the investigation process to the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT).

“We are also giving the KNKT the opportunity to conduct an investigation and objectively examine the cause of the accident,” Dudy said at the location in the early hours of Tuesday (28/4/2025), via a video statement from the Ministry of Transportation.

Dudy added that this accident serves as an important lesson for PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) and the government in improving services for train passengers in the future.

“This train incident is a very important lesson on how to provide the best service to the public, and also to ensure a sense of safety and comfort, and most importantly, to provide safety to passengers,” Dudy stated.

Number of Victims in Bekasi Train Collision Rises to 7

Based on KAI data, all 240 passengers of the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek have been evacuated in safe condition.

Currently, handling is focused on the affected KRL passengers. Based on the latest temporary data, 7 people have been recorded as deceased. All victims have been evacuated and are receiving treatment at several referral hospitals.

Treatment is being carried out at several healthcare facilities, including RSUD Bekasi, RS Bella Bekasi, RS Primaya, RS Mitra Plumbon Cibitung, RS Bakti Kartini, RS Siloam Bekasi Timur, RS Hermina, as well as RS Mitra Keluarga Bekasi Timur and Barat.

13 Long-Distance Trains Cancelled Today

Several long-distance train services were cancelled on Tuesday (28/4/2026) as a result of the train accident at Bekasi Timur Station. These cancellations were made to support the evacuation process and ensure travel safety.
