The Selection Committee for the National Disability Commission (KND) has officially announced the opening of registration for KND commissioner candidates for the 2026-2031 period. The committee is implementing new innovations, such as public testing and digital track record tracing, which includes checking for indications of online gambling (judol) and illegal online loans (pinjol).

KND Selection Committee member Bahrul Fuad stated during a press conference in Jakarta on Friday that the registration announcement will be officially published on the committee’s website and online media channels from 7 to 14 September 2026. This will be followed by the application submission phase from 15 to 21 September 2026.

“We in the Selection Committee are ensuring that this announcement is made as accessible as possible, taking into account all types of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, so that all our brothers and sisters can access this information,” said Bahrul Fuad.

Bahrul explained that the Selection Committee has agreed to uphold high transparency by involving public participation in two crucial stages: providing closed feedback regarding candidates’ track records and conducting public hearings.

“The Committee will not conduct the testing at this stage; the Committee will only observe. The public will directly test the candidates’ visions and missions. This was not present in the previous period, so those who sit in the KND will truly be the choice of the people,” Buju said.

In addition to citizen input, the Selection Committee will rely on thorough background investigations through cooperation letters to state institutions such as the National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan), the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM), the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI), and the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK). This is to ensure candidates are free from criminal records, banking crimes, online gambling, and illegal online loans.

The KND operates under the coordination of the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos), as regulated by Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 68 of 2020, which is a derivative regulation of Law Number 8 of 2016 concerning Persons with Disabilities.

The Selection Committee for the KND commissioners for the 2026-2031 period is chaired by Prof. Mohammad Nuh (academic) and includes members Abdullah Muis (government), Bahrul Fuad or Cak Fu (practitioner), Ro’fah (professional and KND member), and Siswadi (community figure).
