KN SAR 225 Deployed in Banyuwangi to Strengthen SAR Operations in Bali Strait

The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) has placed the KN SAR Widura 225 at the Banyuwangi SAR Office in East Java to enhance and strengthen SAR operations in the Bali Strait and its surroundings. Head of the Banyuwangi SAR Office, I Made Oka Astawa, stated that SAR Widura 225 is a Basarnas Class II State Ship specifically designed to support maritime search and rescue operations. “The presence of the KN SAR Widura 225 represents Basarnas’ commitment to improving the quality of search and rescue services, particularly in the Bali Strait and the Tapal Kuda region which is our area of operations,” he said in a statement in Banyuwangi on Wednesday. He added that the placement of the KN SAR Widura 225 in Banyuwangi is a strategic step to strengthen SAR operational readiness in the Bali Strait and its surrounding waters, which experience a considerably high level of shipping activity. With the capabilities of the vessel, Oka Astawa is optimistic that responses to emergency situations can be delivered more quickly, effectively, and professionally for the safety of the public. The 40-metre ship possesses high manoeuvrability, enabling a rapid response to various maritime emergencies and shipping accidents. This ship features superior specifications with a maximum speed of up to 30 knots and a cruising speed of 20 knots. The KN SAR Widura 225 is capable of operating independently for up to 60 hours nonstop with a cruising range of up to 1,200 nautical miles. These capabilities make the vessel highly effective in supporting SAR operations over large search areas and in challenging weather conditions.
