KMPHI Deems Transfer of Andrie Yunus Case to TNI Valid as Long as Transparent
Jakarta - The Director of the Indonesian Community for Law Enforcement Committee (KMPHI), Rovly Azadi, views the transfer of the case involving Deputy Coordinator of KontraS Andrie Yunus to the TNI Military Police Centre (Puspom) as legitimate, as long as transparency is maintained.
In a public discussion in Jakarta on Wednesday (1/4), he stated this perspective based on Law No. 31 of 1997 on Military Justice.
“Military courts may take this case for investigation and inquiry, but the process must be transparent so the public can know who the perpetrators are and gain clarity on the motive and intellectual actors,” Rovly explained, as quoted from a statement in Jakarta on Thursday.
On the same occasion, Imparsial researcher Riyadh Putuhena hopes the government will promptly establish a Joint Fact-Finding Team (TGPF) regarding the Andrie Yunus case.
According to him, this step is important and objective to pursue the case up to the intellectual actors and deliver justice for the victim.
“The TGPF should involve a combination of investigators and independent investigators, including legal experts, academics, and civil society,” Riyadh said.
The formation of the TGPF, he added, must come with strong and broad access guarantees for the investigation as an opportune moment to restore public trust through independent investigation and prosecution to holistically uncover the Andrie Yunus case.
Meanwhile, activist from the Indonesian Muslim Students’ Union (SEMMI) Walid supports President Prabowo Subianto’s statement that the acid splashing against the KontraS Deputy Coordinator is an act of terrorism and barbaric.
Moreover, he said, the case is currently capturing significant public attention as it remains a question and controversial.
“Therefore, we demand firmness. Do not let the case lack follow-up due to lack of transparency and openness to the public,” Walid stated.
Previously, the Metro Jaya Police confirmed that the acid splashing case against the activist and Andrie Yunus has been transferred to the TNI.
“We reiterate that the case file has been transferred and the authority of the Metro Jaya Police investigators ends there,” said the Head of Public Relations of Metro Jaya Police, Police Commissioner Budi Hermanto, when responding to the possibility of further investigation in Jakarta on Wednesday (1/4).
The transfer was also conveyed by the Director of General Criminal Investigation of Metro Jaya Police, Police Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, during a meeting with Commission III of the House of Representatives on Tuesday (31/3).
The Head of Information Centre (Kapuspen) of TNI Headquarters, Major General TNI Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, assured that his apparatus is working maximally and transparently in investigating the acid splashing case against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus.
“The TNI is committed to carrying out law enforcement processes openly, professionally, and accountably,” Aulia said in an official press release received in Jakarta on Wednesday (1/4).
According to Aulia, his side has endeavoured to open the investigation process stage by stage to the public.
This openness was demonstrated by announcing that four members of the Strategic Intelligence Agency (Bais), who are also suspected perpetrators of the acid splashing, namely Captain NDP, First Lieutenant SL, First Lieutenant BHW, and Second Sergeant ES, have been designated as suspects.
