KMP Putri Yasmin Fire: 35 Passengers Evacuated to Padangbai

Thirty-five passengers from the KMP Putri Yasmin, which caught fire in the Lombok Strait, have been successfully evacuated to Padangbai Port. All passengers brought to Padangbai are reported to be in good health. The KMP Putri Yasmin was carrying 130 people, including passengers and crew.

The victims appeared to still be in shock from the incident they had just experienced. Several young children were seen among the dozens of passengers. The passengers are currently undergoing medical examinations at the ASDP Padangbai office. Afterwards, they will receive food and drink while resting to calm themselves.

‘A total of 35 passengers were evacuated to Padangbai Port in a safe condition,’ said the Coordinator of the Karangasem SAR Post, I Putu Handika Bhayangkara, on Wednesday (12/8/2026). The 35 passengers were evacuated to Padangbai Port because the passing vessel that rescued them happened to be heading towards Padangbai.

The KMP Putri Yasmin was carrying approximately 130 passengers including crew. In addition to the 35 people evacuated to Padangbai, three passengers have arrived at Lembar Port. One person was evacuated deceased.

The KMP Putri Yasmin caught fire while sailing in the waters off Sekotong Beach, West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, in the early hours of Wednesday (12/8/2026). The Mataram SAR Office received information about the incident from the skipper of Rescue Boat (RB) 220 Mataram, Nurdin, at 04:39 WITA.

A 50-second video received by detikBali showed plumes of smoke causing panic among the ship’s passengers. All passengers were seen already wearing life jackets. ‘It’s destroyed. Allahu Akbar,’ said a man in the video while wearing a life jacket.

Public Relations officer for the Mataram SAR Office, I Gusti Lanang Wiswananda, stated that based on initial reports, the ship fire was estimated to have occurred at 04:15 WITA. The incident location was at coordinates 8°43’12.37’S-115°47’35.93’E in the waters off Sekotong Beach, with a straight-line distance of approximately 16.84 Nautical Miles and a heading of 272.37 from the position of RB 220 Mataram.

The Rescue Team immediately moved towards the incident location to provide assistance and carry out evacuations. ‘The team departed at 04:45 WITA and was estimated to arrive at the incident location at 05:10 WITA,’ Lanang explained.
