KMP Putri Yasmin Catches Fire in Sekotong Waters, West Lombok
The ferry KMP Putri Yasmin was reported to have caught fire while sailing in the waters off Sekotong Beach, West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, in the early hours of Wednesday (12/8/2026). The Mataram SAR Office received information about the incident from the skipper of Rescue Boat (RB) 220 Mataram, Nurdin, at 04.39 Wita.
A 50-second video received by detikBali showed plumes of smoke that caused panic among the ship’s passengers. All passengers appeared to be wearing life jackets.
“It is destroyed. Allahu Akbar,” said a man in the video while wearing a life jacket.
The public relations officer of the Mataram SAR Office, I Gusti Lanang Wiswananda, said that based on initial reports, the fire was estimated to have occurred at 04.15 Wita. The incident location was at coordinates 8°43’12.37”S-115°47’35.93”E in the waters off Sekotong Beach, approximately 16.84 nautical miles away on a heading of 272.37 from the position of RB 220 Mataram.
The rescue team immediately moved to the scene to provide assistance and carry out evacuation. “The team departed at 04.45 Wita and is estimated to arrive at the scene at 05.10 Wita,” Lanang explained.
As of the time this report was filed, the deployed SAR team was handling the situation at the scene. The cause of the fire and the number of passengers and crew aboard KMP Putri Yasmin were still being recorded.
