KM Virgo Update: 6 Deceased Identified, 129 People Still Missing

The joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team is continuing its efforts to locate 129 victims of the KM Virgo Transport 8 capsizing incident in the Java Sea on the fourth day of the search operation, Wednesday (16/9).

It is reported that during the two days of search operations on Monday (14/9) and Tuesday (15/9), no additional victims were found by the joint SAR team.

“I would like to convey that on the second and third days, all SAR elements—including air, sea, and the community members we have deployed, as well as maritime traffic passing through those waters—have not yet reported any signs of additional victims being found,” stated the Head of Basarnas, Air Marshal Mohammad Syafii, during a press conference on Tuesday (15/9) evening.

Syafii mentioned that his agency will continue to optimise search operations to find the hundreds of victims who remain missing.

“Basarnas will continue to carry out operations in accordance with the established regulations,” he said.

As of now, out of the 243 people on board the vessel, 114 have been successfully located. Specifically, 108 were found safe, while six others have passed away.

The six deceased victims have also been identified. These identified victims have subsequently been handed over to their families.

The following is the list of the six identified deceased victims:

1. Nurul Rian Hidayat (33) / male / Pamekasan, East Java

2. Deny Ridzal Saputra (29) / male / Kediri, East Java

3. Imam Soeparno (66) / male / Surabaya, East Java

4. Erick Maisul Latif (37) / male / Garut, West Java

5. Risyan Kurnia Putra (28) / male / Garut, West Java

6. Reyner Fausta Yoslianto (22) / male / Malang, East Java
