KM Nurul Salsa Sinking Tragedy in Selayar Elevated to Investigation Stage

The handling of the case regarding the sinking of the KM Nurul Salsa in the waters off the Selayar Islands Regency, South Sulawesi, in mid-July 2026, has been elevated from the inquiry stage to the investigation stage. The incident claimed the lives of four passengers, and 15 people remain missing.

“The elevation of the case status was determined through a case conference,” said Selayar Islands Police Chief AKBP Didid Imawan in a statement on Saturday (8/8).

In the case handling process, Didid stated that investigators had conducted inquiries, including examining witnesses and collecting documents and evidence related to the event.

“Up to the point the case was elevated to the investigation stage, investigators have examined a number of witnesses and secured several pieces of evidence related to the KLM Nurul Salsa maritime accident,” he revealed.

For the time being, Didid said, investigators have been examining a number of pieces of evidence, including 37 life jackets, as well as other items and documents still under investigation.

“Investigators will conduct further examination to clearly uncover the sequence of events, including the factors that caused the maritime accident, and will promptly name suspects,” he explained.

Didid assured that the case handling would continue professionally, based on the facts and evidence obtained during the investigation process.

“We ensure this case is handled professionally and in accordance with legal procedures,” he said.
