KM Cahaya Intan Selebes Sinks in Southeast Sulawesi, Toddler Found Adrift at Sea
Jakarta - The motor vessel (KM) Cahaya Intan Selebes, carrying 7 crew members and 13 passengers, sank in the waters off Bombana, Southeast Sulawesi. The crew and passengers, including a toddler, were left adrift at sea wearing life jackets.
As reported by detikSulsel, circulating video footage shows items from the ship floating in the water. A number of passengers and crew members can be seen holding on using orange life jackets.
They were also trying to cling to white foam life buoys. It was not only adults—a two-year-old toddler was also seen being evacuated onto a mattress floating in the water. Both parents continuously watched over their child to prevent the toddler from falling into the sea.
The crew and passengers held on for quite some time before being evacuated.
“Their ship sank and they have been evacuated,” Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police Water and Air Police Director Comr. Saminata said in his statement on Saturday (14/2/2026).
He revealed the total number of passengers on the vessel was 13, including both adults and children. Meanwhile, the crew consisted of approximately 7 people.
“All passengers and crew have been taken to a community health center for treatment,” he said.
