Klungkung's Online School Registration Causes Confusion Among Parents
The implementation of the Student Admission Selection (SPMB) for the 2026/2027 academic year in Klungkung Regency, Bali, officially opened today, Monday (22/6/2026). From the first day of registration, a number of parents began complaining about the complexity of independent registration. They admitted to difficulties when uploading registration documents, especially since, according to the latest technical guidelines, middle school (SMP) registration is conducted entirely online. Consequently, the SPMB committee no longer accepts physical files.
Based on monitoring at the popular school SMPN 1 Semarapura around 09:30 WITA, several parents carrying physical registration documents appeared confused. Most of them experienced technical obstacles when trying to register independently from home using their devices. Some then gathered to request technical information from the SMPN 1 Semarapura SPMB committee. Additionally, parents who had already uploaded documents online were still seen arriving at the school with physical files.
Ahmad Faris, a guardian intending to register his daughter at SMPN 1 Semarapura via the achievement pathway, admitted he was confused by the newly implemented system. The operator at his child’s original school asked him to come to the destination school, while the destination school directed him back to seek help from the original school’s operator. “So I’m confused, being asked to go back and forth. We already have the account, but the file upload system is what still confuses us. I’m worried we’ll be told to keep going back and forth,” Faris said.
Meanwhile, the Chair of the SMPN 1 Semarapura SPMB Committee, Made Urif, explained that according to the Klungkung SPMB technical guidelines, the committee no longer accepts physical registration documents. At the school, the committee, through the operator, only approves files submitted via the Klungkung SPMB Online system. “Unlike last year, according to the SPMB technical guidelines, this year we do not accept physical files. Everything is online. However, there is still miscommunication. Parents came today bringing physical documents, even though the regulation states registration is done independently through the Klungkung SPMB website,” Urif stated.
According to him, the Klungkung Education, Youth, and Sports Office (Dikbudpora) had already conducted socialisation regarding these latest technical guidelines to all educational units. However, it is possible that some technical information has not reached certain parents. “But we have explained it earlier. For parents experiencing difficulties registering independently, they can request assistance from the operator at their original school. It is the school’s obligation to facilitate its graduates without charge,” Urif clarified.
SMPN 1 Semarapura itself is a highly sought-after school for many students in Klungkung. This year, according to the technical guidelines, the school will accept a total of 288 students, with a capacity of 32 students per study group or class. The quota for the Academic Achievement pathway is 15 percent, consisting of 10 percent for Academic Achievement (29 students) and 5 percent for TKA (15 students). For non-academic achievements in sports and arts, the quota is 10 percent (28 students). Furthermore, the domicile quota is 50 percent (144 students), the affirmation quota is 20 percent (58 students), and the mutation pathway is 5 percent (14 students). “So the total is 288 students across 9 study groups, with a maximum capacity of 32 people per group,” he concluded.
