Klungkung Wins detikBali-Nusra Awards 2026 for Successfully Reducing Stunting
The Klungkung Regency Government has won the Commendable Development Innovation Programme Award in the Health Service Transformation for Stunting Reduction category at the detikBali-Nusra Awards 2026. The award was given for Klungkung’s success in reducing the stunting prevalence rate to the lowest in Indonesia. The award was received by the Head of the Regional Research and Innovation Agency (Brida) of Klungkung, I Ketut Budiartha, representing Klungkung Regent I Made Satria at the event held at Trans Resort Bali on Friday (3/7/2026). The Klungkung Regency Government was deemed to have successfully delivered a transformation of health services that has had a real impact on accelerating stunting reduction. Various programmes implemented in an integrated manner have been able to drive sustainable improvements in the quality of maternal and child health. This success is reflected in the stunting prevalence rate, which has continued to decline in recent years. Based on the Indonesian Health Survey (SKI) released by the Ministry of Health in 2024, Klungkung recorded a stunting prevalence of 5.1 percent, the lowest in Indonesia. For this achievement, the Klungkung Regency Government received fiscal incentives from the central government worth Rp 5.6 billion. The downward trend in stunting in Klungkung Regency has been ongoing since 2021. At that time, the stunting prevalence was still at 19.4 percent. The figure then dropped to 7.7 percent in 2022 and fell further to 4.9 percent in 2023. In 2024, the stunting prevalence was recorded at 5.1 percent, before decreasing again to 3.21 percent in 2025. Based on the latest data as of March 2026, the stunting prevalence in Klungkung has fallen again to 3.15 percent. The Regency Government is even targeting a stunting prevalence of zero percent by 2030. This achievement is inseparable from various innovations implemented by the Klungkung Regency Government in handling stunting. One such programme is ‘Kami Siap Nikah’ (Kasi Nikah), which provides health assistance and additional nutritional intake for adolescent girls and prospective brides. This programme is carried out as an effort to improve the health quality of prospective mothers before pregnancy. With good health conditions, it is hoped that mothers can give birth to healthy babies and avoid the risk of stunting. The Klungkung Regency Government has also strengthened health services by increasing visits to integrated health posts (posyandu) for pregnant women and toddlers. Various other interventions have also been carried out, including the distribution of laying hen chicks to families with stunted toddlers and the elderly to support the community’s nutritional needs. In terms of governance, the Klungkung Regency Government has formed a stunting reduction acceleration team at the regency, district, and village or sub-district levels. All regional apparatus organisations (OPD), sub-district heads, and village heads who are members of the team are encouraged to carry out action plans according to their respective duties and functions. Village governments are also directed to increase budget allocations in the Village Budget (APBDes) to support the stunting reduction acceleration programme. This collaborative approach has become one of the main factors in Klungkung’s success in significantly reducing the stunting rate.
