Klungkung Regency Borrows IDR 18 Billion to Develop Watuklotok Temple Area

The Klungkung Regency Government has taken on additional debt to PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (SMI), borrowing IDR 18 billion to develop the Watuklotok Temple area in Tojan Village, Klungkung District. Klungkung Regent I Made Satria explained that the total loan application to PT SMI amounts to IDR 68.6 billion, which is being disbursed in two stages. “The total infrastructure financing plan through a regional loan to PT SMI is IDR 68.6 billion. The first phase, worth IDR 50.6 billion, was signed on 6 July in Jakarta. Today we are completing the agreement by signing the remaining loan ceiling of IDR 18 billion,” Satria said on Tuesday (14/7/2026). The second phase of the loan funds will be specifically allocated for the Watuklotok Temple area development package. “Through this arrangement, we hope the Watuklotok Temple area will become more organised, beautiful, and comfortable for worshippers who come to pray. It can also become a dignified spiritual and cultural tourism attraction,” he explained. On the same occasion, Satria affirmed his commitment to maintaining accountability in the use of the loan funds. He stated that all financial management of the loan facility would be managed transparently, with orderly administration and precise targeting. “Every rupiah allocated will be properly recorded as part of optimising regional assets, so that the benefits can be felt sustainably by the community without sacrificing future fiscal stability and regional budgets,” Satria stressed. Meanwhile, PT SMI’s Director of Public Financing and Project Development, Faaris Pranawa, expressed appreciation for the Klungkung Regency Government’s commitment to driving regional development. Faaris noted that Klungkung’s economic growth, which reached 5.67 percent, is an extraordinary achievement. “This makes us proud to be part of that achievement. This figure also shows faster growth compared to several other regions on the Island of the Gods,” he said. He also mentioned that the poverty rate in Klungkung has fallen to its lowest level in the last five years. Additionally, the unemployment rate in Klungkung is one of the lowest in Bali. “Last year, more than 1.1 million tourists visited Klungkung, with growth in the accommodation and transportation sectors above 13 percent. This is the main driver of growth in Klungkung Regency,” he concluded.
