Klungkung Public Order Agency Denies Raid on Illegal Cigarettes Was Leaked
A raid on illegal cigarettes across three sub-districts in Klungkung Regency, Bali, ended with no seizures. The Public Order Agency and Fire Department (Satpol PP dan Damkarmat) of Klungkung have denied that the zero-result was caused by a leak of information regarding the inspection.
The joint operation with the Denpasar Customs and Excise Office targeted 16 business premises in the sub-districts of Banjarangkan, Klungkung, and Dawan on Wednesday (15/7/2026). The targets included Madurese-style kiosks, grocery stores, and sundry shops.
“From the inspection results, no cigarettes without excise bands were found at any of the locations,” said Head of the Klungkung Satpol PP and Damkarmat, I Dewa Putu Suwarbawa, when confirmed on Thursday (16/7/2026).
Regarding the nil result, Suwarbawa stressed that the condition was not caused by an information leak. “We are confident the nil result in this activity was not due to a leak about the inspection. Instead, we see several possibilities,” he stated.
According to Suwarbawa, the first possibility is the increased awareness among traders to only sell legal cigarettes equipped with official excise bands. He attributed this condition to the socialisation efforts and routine monitoring carried out by the Customs Office together with the Klungkung Regency Government.
“Secondly, it is possible that the distribution of illegal cigarettes was simply not entering the targeted locations at the time the operation was conducted,” he added.
Suwarbawa confirmed that monitoring of the circulation of illegal cigarettes will continue, both routinely and incidentally, with varying inspection locations.
He considers the nil result to be a positive achievement. However, this does not mean supervision will be reduced. On the contrary, synergy with the Customs Office will continue to be strengthened so that the circulation of illegal cigarettes in Klungkung Regency can be prevented early on.
“The most important thing for us is that monitoring activities will continue. The goal is not solely to find violations, but also to build compliance among business operators with excise regulations,” he concluded.
