Klungkung DPRD Member Faces Assault Allegations at Gianyar Bar
A Klungkung Regional House of Representatives member, identified as KD, is alleged to have assaulted a driver employed by the DPRD, Murdiana, at a nightspot in Gianyar Regency on Monday (25 May). The victim reported the assault to police after sustaining bruises and swelling on his face, but later withdrew the complaint after KD requested a family-mediated resolution. The incident began when KD invited Murdiana to a bar along Jalan Ida Bagus Mantra in Gianyar around 5pm Wita. ‘I was invited to a bar in Gianyar. I thought he needed a driver,’ Murdiana told media on Tuesday (26 May). At the venue, KD offered the victim a lady companion, which was declined. They then drank together accompanied by two women, one of whom was reportedly a close friend of KD. However, the situation suddenly escalated when KD began to rage. ‘He suddenly went berserk. I tried to calm him down, but then he punched me,’ Murdiana said. The altercation reportedly continued outside the bar, with Murdiana claiming he was punched on the chin, temple, and left cheek. ‘About 9pm I reported to Gianyar Police Station. My cheek was swollen and my chin hurt,’ he added. Murdiana stated he did not know why he was allegedly assaulted and insisted he had no prior issues with KD. ‘There was no prior issue,’ he said. Meanwhile, Klungkung DPRD Secretary I Komang Gede Agus Kusana said he had not received any information about the incident from the police or the involved council member. ‘I am currently in Buleleng. There is no information yet. We will inform once it comes in. The person involved has not reported it yet,’ Kusana explained. Although he initially reported the assault to police, Murdiana later withdrew the complaint. When contacted at 3pm Wita, he said he was heading to Gianyar Police Station to retract his statement. ‘Last night I had no choice but to report it to the police because my wife and family were upset. But there has been a request to resolve this through family mediation, so I am now retracting the complaint,’ he said. Murdiana did not deny KD’s alleged assault and said his face was still bruised. However, after the situation calmed down, he chose to pursue a peaceful resolution. ‘There was no pressure at all. This is entirely my own decision to resolve the matter through peaceful means,’ he said. As of this report, KD has not responded to questions or calls from detikBali. However, according to his statement to media, KD denied the assault allegations, describing the incident as a misunderstanding and miscommunication. ‘There was none, it was just a miscommunication,’ he said briefly.
