Klungkung DPRD Calls for Strict Oversight of Organic Waste from Denpasar

The Chairman of Klungkung’s DPRD, Anak Agung Gde Anom, has drawn attention to the processing of organic waste at the buffer site for the Bali Cultural Centre (PKB) in Gunaksa Village, Klungkung, Bali. He has requested that the Klungkung Regency Government (Pemkab) conduct strict supervision.

Anom reminded authorities not to allow any insertion of residue waste among the dozens of trucks carrying shredded organic waste that arrive daily without detection.

“Full authority lies with the local government to exercise strict control over the materials brought into Klungkung. Anything outside of compost that is not shredded or non-organic waste must be rejected,” Anom told the media on Thursday (16/4/2026).

Furthermore, Anom stressed the importance of the Pemkab Klungkung’s active role in ensuring that field operations proceed according to agreements. The PDIP politician from Akah Village also warned against the Pemkab Klungkung being caught off guard.

To this end, the local government, as the host, must verify and confirm that the materials arriving from Denpasar are truly compost materials or shredded organic waste. Not other types of waste that could trigger new problems.

“Supervision must target the type of waste disposed of, namely pure organic waste that has been processed into shredded compost materials,” he added.

In response to residents’ concerns, Anom asked the public to address the information they receive with clarity. According to Anom, inter-regional cooperation in waste management is something that needs to be supported as long as it is carried out in accordance with environmental governance procedures.

To that end, he also invited the public to conduct independent supervision. The public is also asked to report any matters that might disturb their comfort, with the hope that they can be promptly followed up by the government.

“Residents around the storage site can help become the eyes and ears of the government in conducting independent field supervision,” he requested.
