KL's reserves at US$31.9b

KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Malaysia's foreign reserves rose to
121.118 billion ringgit (US$31.9 billion) at mid-August from
120.399 billion ringgit at the end of July, the central bank said
Monday.

Bank Negara Malaysia said total assets and liabilities stood
at 149.269 billion ringgit against 148.514 billion ringgit
previously.

Loans and advances were higher at 6.614 billion ringgit from
6.537 billion ringgit at end-July while holdings of Malaysian
government paper stood at 108.108 million ringgit from 108.131
million ringgit end of July.

Currency in circulation rose to 20.171 billion ringgit from
20.085 billion ringgit at the end of July. Deposits of commercial
banks, finance companies and merchant banks rose to 66.331
billion ringgit from 64.394 billion ringgit.
