KL's Digicom, Yahoo! tie up
KUALA LUMPUR (Dow Jones): Malaysia's DiGi Telecommunications
Sdn. Bhd. said Monday it will team up with Yahoo! Asia to provide
Internet content to DiGi mobile phone users.
Digicom users will be provided with a tool kit to allow phones
not equipped with wireless application protocol, or WAP, to
access WAP services, as well as direct access to WAP platforms.
"Yahoo! will be responsible for the creation, hosting and
maintenance of all its existing and future products and features
while DiGi provides the WAP gateway," DiGi said in a press
statement.
"With Yahoo! on board we are confident that our soon-to-be-
launched mobile Internet services will be a cut above the rest,"
DiGi chief Operating Officer Stein Hansen said at a press
conference.
Financial details of the venture weren't available. Nor could
the companies provide revenue or subscriber forecasts for the new
services.
