KLH Establishes Tukad Bindu as a Tangible Model for Community Climate Action
Environment Minister Moh Jumhur Hidayat has emphasised the crucial role of community-based climate action, designating Tukad Bindu, or the Bindu River, in Denpasar, Bali, as a concrete example to be replicated in other regions. Minister Jumhur conducted a dialogue with river care communities and local waste managers during a visit to the Tukad Bindu area in Denpasar today. “Tangible actions like those carried out by volunteers at Tukad Bindu in managing waste and protecting the river are the true foundation of a circular economy, and they serve as the lifeblood of the Indonesia ASRI programme,” stated Minister Jumhur. ASRI stands for Aman, Sehat, Resik, dan Indah (Safe, Healthy, Clean, and Beautiful), a programme introduced by President Prabowo Subianto during the National Coordination Meeting of Central and Regional Governments. The Ministry of Environment views Tukad Bindu not only as a local success story but also as an environmental governance model possessing remarkable resilience and a multiplier effect. During the visit, Jumhur declared the trip was not merely ceremonial but represented state recognition of Tukad Bindu’s extraordinary transformation. The river, once filthy, a breeding ground for disease, and neglected, has been successfully converted by the community into a self-sufficient, productive, and beautiful eco-tourism area. This success serves as a tangible blueprint for how ecologically driven restoration initiated by residents can yield dual benefits, restoring nature whilst simultaneously energising the community’s social economy. Jumhur stated the ministry will continue strengthening collaboration with regional governments and civil society organisations to ensure brilliant initiatives like Tukad Bindu do not stop in Bali but spread to all corners of the archipelago.
