KLH Assists 12 Regions in South Sulawesi with Climate Change Control
Makassar (ANTARA) - Director of Climate Change Control Resource Mobilisation at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLH), Irawan Asa’ad, stated that he has been tasked with assisting 12 regencies and cities in South Sulawesi (Sulsel), including Luwu, in controlling climate change and environmental management. In his statement in Makassar on Tuesday, Irawan Asa’ad said one of the current focuses is the implementation of the Gerakan Indonesia ASRI (Safe, Healthy, Clean, and Beautiful) Movement, which is an initiative of President Prabowo Subianto at the beginning of 2026. “Regarding waste management, we are encouraging handling from the upstream, starting from waste sorting at the household level, the application of the 3R concept, and strengthening waste banks in the community,” he said during a meeting with the Regent of Luwu, Patahudding, at the Regent’s Official Residence. He explained that the types of plants selected are fruit trees so that they have beneficial value for the community while also serving as an effort to prevent illegal logging. In addition, the local government is also planning to plant durian trees between clove gardens to strengthen soil structure, considering that clove plant roots are deemed insufficiently strong in preventing landslides. Besides the greening programme, the meeting also discussed waste management, which is a special concern of the Luwu Regency Government (Pemkab Luwu). The Regent emphasised the importance of an integrated waste management system from upstream to downstream.
