KLH and ANTAM Plant 5,000 Mangrove Seedlings to Mark World Mangrove Day

The Ministry of Environment (KLH) together with PT ANTAM (Persero) Tbk planted 5,000 mangrove seedlings and distributed thousands more to the public in an effort to support coastal ecosystem rehabilitation and climate change mitigation. The event, held in the SCBD area of Sudirman, Jakarta, on Sunday, commemorated World Mangrove Day and was part of ANTAM’s 58th anniversary celebrations and the Gerak Hijau 2026 movement. Deputy Minister of Environment Diaz Faisal Malik Hendropriyono stated that the planting activity was particularly meaningful as it coincided with UNESCO’s World Mangrove Day. He noted that if the mangroves thrive, their benefits will be felt not only today but for decades and even centuries to come. Diaz emphasised that achieving sustainable development cannot rely solely on the government or the business sector. He argued that collaboration among all elements of society is key to protecting the environment and bequeathing a better planet to future generations. The government contributes through policy, businesses through responsible practices, and the public through daily habits that care for the environment. ‘If all three work together, I am confident Indonesia will be much greener,’ he said. ANTAM’s President Director, Untung Budiharto, explained that the company is accelerating its decarbonisation efforts through various energy efficiency programmes and increased use of new renewable energy. He reported that ANTAM successfully reduced its carbon emissions by 9.43 percent in 2025, surpassing its set targets. ‘This year, up to the middle of the year, emission reductions have also exceeded the annual target,’ he added. The Gerak Hijau 2026 movement is a collaborative initiative encouraging the public to adopt healthy lifestyles while demonstrating care for the environment through tangible actions.
