Klaten Regent’s Arrest Sweep Nets Central Java BPK Chief as Suspect; Rp1.9bn Seized

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named suspects in a case arising from an arrest operation involving Klaten Regent Hamenang Wajar Ismoyo.

The decision was made after investigators held a case review on Thursday evening (15 October 2026).

KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said the identities of those named as suspects would be officially announced at a press conference scheduled for Friday afternoon (16 October 2026).

“We will provide full details at this afternoon’s planned press conference about the parties deemed responsible and named as suspects in this case,” Budi said.

The KPK conducted the arrest operation on Thursday (15 October 2026). Investigators detained Hamenang, Central Java representative office of the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) head Ahmad Luthfi H. Rahmatullah, and several other people.

A total of 20 people were detained: 19 in Klaten, Central Java, and one in Jakarta. The KPK then brought nine people from Klaten to Jakarta for further questioning, along with the person detained in the capital.

Ten people are therefore undergoing intensive questioning at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building. Investigators have seized around Rp1.9 billion in cash as evidence.

They also seized a blue barrel allegedly used by Hamenang to collect or store proceeds from corruption. The KPK has said it is investigating five alleged corruption strands in the case.

These comprise alleged corruption in the procurement of goods and services, licensing, collection fees, payments from regional government departments or work units, and alleged payments to BPK officials to influence an audit.

The alleged payments to BPK officials have drawn particular attention because the operation also involved the head of the agency’s Central Java representative office.

The KPK is investigating links between the various allegations to establish the full structure of the case. It is scheduled to announce the suspects’ identities and each party’s alleged role at an official press conference.
