Klaten Regent and Central Java BPK Chief Named Suspects in Bribery Case

Jakarta – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named Klaten Regent Hamenang Wajar Ismoyo, Head of the Central Java Representative Office of the Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK) Ahmad Luthfi H. Rahmatullah, and a private-sector figure as suspects following an arrest operation.

“The KPK has named as suspects HWI (Hamenang), Klaten Regent for 2025–2030, and ALU (Ahmad Luthfi), Head of the Central Java BPK Representative Office,” said Achmad Taufik Husein, acting director of KPK investigations, at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building in Jakarta on Friday (16 October 2026).

Taufik said the KPK had also named MAW, a private-sector figure from PT MWC, as a suspect in the case.

He explained that Hamenang was suspected of receiving bribes in four alleged corruption clusters and paying a bribe in another cluster.

Ahmad Luthfi, meanwhile, was suspected of receiving a bribe in one alleged corruption cluster. MAW was suspected of paying a bribe in one cluster of the case.

The KPK has detained all three suspects for an initial 20 days, from 16 October to 4 November 2026, at the detention centre at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building in Jakarta.

The KPK had earlier carried out an arrest operation on 15 October 2026, detaining Hamenang, Ahmad Luthfi and 18 other people.

Of the 20 people arrested, the KPK questioned 10 at its Merah Putih Building in Jakarta.

During the operation, the KPK seized evidence including around Rp1.2 billion in cash, as well as a blue drum allegedly used by Hamenang to collect or store proceeds from corruption.

The KPK said the case involved five alleged corruption clusters: procurement of goods and services, licensing, collection fees, payments from regional government organisations or work units, and payments to BPK officials to influence an audit.
